Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-1 in a scintillating Premier League match in London thanks to a brace from Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian talisman opened the scoring in the 11th minute, just the fifth time that Liverpool have scored first in 13 Premier League matches this season.

Salah doubled the visitors' advantage in the 40th minute, capitalizing on a mistake by Eric Dier to coolly chip the ball over an onrushing Hugo Lloris.

Spurs were much improved in the second half, creating several chances right out of the gate.

Antonio Conte's men eventually pulled a goal back in the 70th minute, as Harry Kane took a pass from Dejan Kulusevski and fired home. Kulusevski had come on just moments earlier, returning from injury to play for the first time since the end of September.

Both sides had chances in the final ten minutes as Tottenham furiously pressed for an equaliser, but the score would remain 2-1.

The result lifts Liverpool to eighth place, while Spurs fall to fourth place thanks to Newcastle United's win earlier today.

When asked to describe just how good Mohamed Salah is, Klopp responded: "My English is not good enough for that."

The manager also spoke about his connection to the city and the club of Liverpool.

Antonio Conte spoke to Sky Sports after the loss: "It is difficult to explain the defeat tonight. We deserved much more but also after the first half in the dressing room I was happy with the desire and what we did.

"We put a lot of pressure on Liverpool and were 2-0 down but we didn't know why. In the second half we played really well. Their goalkeeper made good saves and we hit the post and the crossbar. I think the result is unfair.

"It is difficult to explain this type of game. For sure the performance was good. We are managing a situation with many, many injuries and we need to find new solutions.

"This type of performance against a team like Liverpool gives me satisfaction as it shows the hard work works."

Asked if today's win could be a turning point for Liverpool, Mohamed Salah told Sky Sports: "Hopefully. Before, we didn't want to lose, but that's football and we have to accept it.

"But we've managed to strike back a few times in the season and we played very good games against City, against Napoli, and now.

"Hopefully that will give us more confidence and we'll just try to carry on and win games."

Harry Kane spoke to Sky Sports after the defeat: "It's been the story of our season so far - we haven't played well enough in the first half and got punished.

"We fought until the end and we knew if we got one back we would have chances to get a second but unfortunately we couldn't do it and it's disappointing.

"We need to be better at controlling games and we have to look back at this game but I don't think it was terrible, we just got punished with two clinical goals.

"In the second half we were the better team so we will not panic but we need to be better for sure."

Mohamed Salah spoke to Sky Sports after the match: "I think we were lucky in the first half, we played quite good and managed to score two goals. In the second half we could've scored but were unlucky.

"We did well to get the three points. It's always a tough opponent. I'm focused on making a difference and managed to do so today.

"We managed to strike back a few times in the season, have played some good games."

After suffering defeat in each of their past two away league matches, Liverpool have finally taken their first road victory of the Premier League season.

Today's win is their first away from Anfield in the league since May.

Liverpool continue their dominance of Tottenham, as today's result means they've gone unbeaten in their last 11 meetings with Spurs in all competitions (W8 D3).

It's been more than five years since Tottenham's last win over Liverpool in October 2017.

In fact, Spurs have only beaten Liverpool once in their last 22 meetings in all competitions dating back to March 2013.
