Who’s excited about fall?I know I am!

All the pumpkin! All the maple syrup!Bring on the cinnamon-infused drinks, maple syrup drizzledcakes and cookies for me!

Okay, you can probably tell I love fall.Favourite season hands down.

I recently made delicious pumpkin muffinsand opened up one of those huge cans of pumpkin puree.I had some leftover and wanted to make good use of it.

Being a huge fan of smoothies,I thought how could I use this puree in smoothie form. Then I started thinking about the flavours that go with pumpkin. Classic combos of cinnamon and nutmeg or pumpkin pie spice came to mind.Boom! Pumpkin pie smoothie! Winner winner smoothie dinner or, um, something like that.

This pumpkin pie smoothie tastes like a treat, a drinkable dessert or dessert smoothie, and we regularly enjoy it during the fall season.

By the way, these pumpkin pie bites go great with this pumpkin smoothie!

Why We Love This Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

  • It’s a great way to use leftover pumpkin puree (yay for reducing food waste).
  • Like most smoothies, it comes together in minutes.
  • It’s such a fun way to enjoy a seasonal favourite at home.
  • Of course, it tastes delicious!

What Is Pumpkin Puree?

Pumpkin puree is exactly what it sounds like … pureed pumpkin. Nothing else.

The funny thing is that pumpkin puree in and of itself doesn’t have a lot of strong flavours.

What pumpkin puree does have, however, is a lovely silky, creamy texture. When you mix warming spices with it, now you’re onto something.

Don’t confuse pumpkin puree with pumpkin pie filling. Pumpkin pie filling has other additives, like spices and sweeteners. Use pure pumpkin puree in this smoothie recipe.

Tips and Variations

  • Ensure you use a frozen banana. It helps create a silky smooth texture.
  • Only two tablespoons of maple syrup were used for the two generous smoothies. Feel free to add more (or less) to taste.
  • If you don’t need this pumpkin pie smoothie to be vegan, try honey.
  • Oat milk was used here, but almond, soy or dairy are great alternatives (if you don’t need this to be a vegan pumpkin smoothie).

I am totally ready for fall over here! I’ve been craving some of my favorite fall foods, and the early mornings have been (dare I say it) a little bit chilly. We’ve been doing smoothies for lunches quite a bit this summer, but I’m thinking I should make these soon as we get into fall mode! Sounds delicious, Dawn!

    Oh no….a potential wine allergy!!!!
It’ll be okay though, I promise. I get allergic reactions to certain wines – nothing major – just eczema-like hives on my face & chest. I usually drink a Shiraz/Syrah and overall have no issues with it. Occasionally when I try new wines I’ll run into a problem. I’ll use the bottle for cooking and stay away from it in the future.
I love all things pumpkin and would love this smoothie. I’ve never had pumpkin pie in drinkable form and suddenly feel like I’ve been missing out my entire life 🙂
Hope you have a wonderful week ♥

Hopefully, it won’t happen again…just have to keep my eye out for it! Good that you know what wine works fine for you! It would be a sad thing if I had to avoid all wine, lol 😀
Hope that you get a chance to try the smoothie soon….I’m sure you’ll love it 🙂 Have a wonderful week too, Amanda!!

FAQs

How do you make pumpkin flavor stronger? ›

Ruth Reichl's Tip: Roast Your Pumpkin Purée

Not only does roasting deepen the flavor of the pumpkin, but it bakes off some of the moisture in the purée, ensuring a more custard-like pie with less risk of a soggy crust.

Why is my pumpkin pie watery? ›

If you notice liquid on the top of your pie while it's still in the oven or still hot, then it has been overbaked. Just as above, the proteins in the custard have toughened too much, squeezing out the liquid from the filling. If you notice that the pie is dewy when you remove it from the fridge, it's just condensation.

Does pumpkin pie rise? ›

Around the suggested baking time in your recipe, your pumpkin pie's filling (and crust) should deepen in color. The filling should be slightly raised and there maybe some cracking around the edge where the filling meets the crust. The puff of the pie will relax as the pie cools, hiding many of the cracks as well.

What brings out pumpkin flavor? ›

Pumpkin spice (a.k.a. pumpkin pie spice) is an aromatic blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger. Sometimes allspice is included. You can buy the spice blend at the store or use ingredients you already have on hand to make DIY pumpkin spice.

What makes pumpkin pie taste so good? ›

The pie is generally flavored with pumpkin pie spice, a blend that includes cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves or allspice. The pie is usually prepared with canned pumpkin, but fresh-cooked pumpkin can be used.

What not to do when making a smoothie? ›

The Don'ts of Making Smoothies:

Choose to use fresh fruit instead as to not add any more artificial sugars! Do not toss in unwashed fruits! I know it can be tempting to skip the rinsing process to quickly dump everything into the blender, but unwashed fruits are unwashed fruits! Don't skimp on protein.

Do you put ice or water in a smoothie? ›

Typically you would add ice to a smoothie, but if your fruit is pre-frozen, it is unnecessary to use ice. Adding fruit juice is a good option, but remember to be aware of the sugar content of any fruit juice you are adding to your smoothie. 3. Add some green.

What can you add to a smoothie to make it more filling? ›

Nut butters, seeds (like chia, hemp or ground flax seeds), and avocados can make your smoothie extra filling, and depending on which one you choose, may bring heart-protecting omega-3 fatty acids or monounsaturated fats. But these additions also drive the calories up.

Why does my pumpkin pie taste bland? ›

Q: My pumpkin pie doesn't taste much like pumpkin. Why not? First off, make sure you're using the right kind of pumpkin! Look for pumpkins labeled "sugar pumpkin" or "baking pumpkin." The pumpkins typically used for jack-o'-lanterns are stringy, watery, and bland.

What are 2 types of pumpkins perfect for pies? ›

When shopping for pumpkins, look for the ones usually generically labeled “sugar pumpkins” or “pie pumpkins.” Some specific names are Baby Pam, Autumn Gold, Ghost Rider, New England Pie Pumpkin, Lumina (which are white), Cinderella, and Fairy Tale.

Can you overcook pumpkin pie? ›

Overcooked pumpkin pie can happen, so it's important to keep in mind that custard pies (including pumpkin pie) can continue to bake once they're out of the oven.

What to do with tasteless pumpkin? ›

I like to roast wedges of pumpkin which helps to reduce the moisture content, making it taste richer and sweeter. You can flavour the pumpkin at this point by rubbing it with a spice of choice. Place a couple of halved onions to cook with the pumpkin to either use in the soup or as a garnish.

Why is my pumpkin bland? ›

If picked too early your pumpkin will be bland, having never developed its natural sweetness. If you wait too long, frost could shorten its shelf life. When the perfect moment arrives, you'll see one or more of these signs: Dry leaves.

Why is my pumpkin so soft? ›

It's usually under the spots of dirt on the pumpkin & it's because that dirt & other debris causes mold on the pumpkin which causes them to be mushy and to quite frankly smell terrible. So my little hack is… clean your pumpkins thoroughly! That's it.
