What to Know

Critics Consensus

As strange as it is thrillingly ambitious, The Lobster is definitely an acquired taste -- but for viewers with the fortitude to crack through Yorgos Lanthimos' offbeat sensibilities, it should prove a savory cinematic treat.

The Lobster | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Jordan Hoffman Esquire Magazine Like all good satire, it takes what's already obvious about the world around us and just transforms it into something new. Oct 18, 2018 Full Review The Lobster | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Danny Leigh Financial Times Part of the joy of Lanthimos's film is seeing in it any degree of subtext you like. Rated: 5/5 Dec 27, 2016 Full Review The Lobster | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com This is the type of film I'm going to watch multiple times, obsessing over every choice Lanthimos and his talented team of cinematic craftsmen made in order to see it come to life. Rated: 3.5/4 Aug 9, 2016 Full Review The Lobster | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Emiliano Basile EscribiendoCine Lanthimos' particular style, characterized by intense camera movements and exquisite shot compositions, is reminiscent of the best Kubrick. Isaiahyouknowme _ The performances are really good in this movie and everyone sells the setting completely. There’s a lot of “wow that’s weird” moments in this movie. It’s an interesting ride to see what is going to happen next but doesn’t particularly grasp you too much. I had a few laughs. I think you almost have to watch this mood with how much hype has been around it, but it’s not life changing by any means. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/06/24 Full Review Leaburn O I liked it. Original, decent performances. All very autistic which I didn’t understand at all but this is dystopian so whatever. Kept me interested throughout so it did the job. Watched on Film4. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/26/24 Full Review Ulley T I've never been super super in love with the ending, but wow do I still love this movie Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/19/24 Full Review S C A movie for the pretentious. In reality just awful. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review Brad M Started out fairly interesting, but bombed in the middle to the terrible ending. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/06/24 Full Review Grace h i did not like the movie at all, I think that it was trying to go to hard no making some point and in the process lost the audience. I liked the ending but it would not be for every one. it dose not give a ''Hollywood ending" and leaves the audience wonder what happen and having to make up their one mind. It covers some comments and some graphic scenes and show that some times you cant cheat the system and you have to play the game.
