Here are some handy tips to help you get started in My Time at Sandrock.

In order to create new recipes in My Time at Sandrock, you’ll need to choose your ingredients and prepare them with care in order to fill out your recipe book. You’ll also receive a handful of recipes from your friends around Sandrock to help you get started with cooking.

How To Cook In My Time At Sandrock

My Time At Sandrock: Complete Cooking Guide (2)How To Unlock Cooking

In My Time at Sandrock, cooking is a bit different from other games of its ilk. Instead of building and upgrading a kitchen, you'll need to research progressively better cooking equipment and build it for your Workshop.

Be sure to buy meals from the Blue Moon Saloon before you can cook, though - cooked food is great for your builder's stats and stamina!

Like all the other machines in My Time at Sandrock, cooking equipment will need to be upgraded with blueprints from the Research Center. It's also important to know that you don't start with any cookware unlocked - you'll need to start from the ground up.

When it comes to cooking in My Time at Sandrock, there are four cooking stations you'll need to prototype and craft. They can be found under the Product Creating Machine tab.

  • The Drying Rack is your first level of cooking gear, where you'll be able to make dried foods like fish and jerky.
  • The Apprentice Cooking Station is your first real piece of cooking equipment, allowing you to experiment with a Cooking Pot or Steamer.
  • Your Chef's Cooking Station is a more advanced version of the Apprentice machine and allows the use of a Wok in cooking.
  • Finally, the Advanced Cooking Station renders your builder capable of using the Oven.

Since your workstations are limited in what they can make until you improve them, you can't make every dish until you've fully upgraded the Cooking Stations.

How To Create New Recipes

While you'll receive a handful of recipes as you play the game and befriend the locals, for the most part, My Time at Sandrock's cooking mechanic relies on you experimenting with different ingredients and cooking methods.

As stated above, better Cooking Stations unlock new cookware, and these increasingly involved methods of cooking allow you to create new recipes from scratch.

Your builder is limited by the tools at their disposal, meaning you'll need to upgrade your cooking equipment to continue making new meals.

On the second tab at your cooking station, the one that looks like a beaker, you'll find yourself able to choose cooking methods, ingredients, and herbs to blend together into dozens of unique dishes.

Here, you'll be able to carefully select ingredients that seem like they'd work together in pursuit of new homemade recipes that your builder has made up themselves.

My Time At Sandrock: Complete Cooking Guide (4)

Choose some herbs and spices to add in on the second page of your ingredients list, and then choose one of four different cooking methods for your builder to use in preparing this meal. Once you've got everything in order, confirm your decision.

Any time you're successful in creating a new recipe, you'll not only receive a portion of the meal itself, but the recipe is logged and can now be accessed from the recipe menu to be quickly re-prepared later.

If you're unsuccessful in creating a new recipe, you'll get a pile of Food Scraps instead.

My Time At Sandrock: Complete Cooking Guide (6)Trade Recipes With Owen And Mabel

There are two characters in My Time at Sandrock who are able to help your builder learn to cook - Owen, who owns the Blue Moon Saloon, and Mabel over at the Wandering Y Yakmel Ranch.

Both of these characters have a dialogue option you won't see when befriending the others - "Talk Recipes," with an icon of a chef's hat and spatula.

If the character isn't busy, they're usually willing to chat about food. The majority of the time, they'll offer to teach you a recipe in exchange for a few Gols.

If they are busy when you talk, try again in a couple of hours when they're free.

There are odd occasions, though, where these characters may instead ask you to teach them recipes. Not only will they give you a few Gols for the trouble, but you'll earn some relationship points with them, too.

They both give more recipes as you get closer to them, so work on your friendships to earn new recipes.
