How to Store Dry Seasoning Mixes

You can always whip this up every time you make a chicken recipe with it, but I much prefer having extra on hand so I can just grab a jar and sprinkle when needed. That means making larger batches of this chicken seasoning recipe and storing for later.

I have found one of the best methods of mixing together dry spices is to do so in a large bowl before pouring into a container. A whisk tends to help make them blend well without clumps, in my opinion. All you need is a small funnel to pour into containers after blended. There are tons of great ideas for storage, but my preferences are to use old spice bottles, mason jars, or airtight spice jars you can buy in bulk on Amazon.

Note: Don’t forget to label your bottles of seasoning recipes. I prefer chalkboard labels (these jars actually come with the labels) on my bottles so if I reuse later, I can add a different spice to the jar with no worries about peeling a label off again.

Can I change the heat level in this kickin’ chicken seasoning?

Yes! If you like something even spicier – you can easily add more chili powder, cayenne pepper, or any other dried pepper you prefer!

For those that like the idea of a spice blend with heat, but find this to be a bit too much, feel free to reduce the amount of chili powder or mix into something like flour/cornstarch for a coating to make a crispy coating.

Ways to use a homemade seasoning blend

If you are wondering what all you can use this chicken seasoning recipe on, the possibilities are endless! As mentioned above, we love using for our kickin’ chicken on the grill since it packs a bit of heat. You could also use this blend if you want to learn how to make chicken nuggets clean and flavorful. Alternately, I love making Instant Pot Shredded Chicken for fast meals throughout the week, and could definitely see adding this spice blend to the pot for a bit of a different flavor profile.

Thanks for posting! I LOVE (I’m obsessed) with Weber Kickin’ Chicken Seasoning! I’ve said for some time now that I want to make my own in case they ever stop producing it. I will try this recipe this weekend! I am curious, does this recipe yield that slight citrus flavor? The ingredients on the Weber bottle says “dehydrated orange peel” so I wasn’t sure if that was a crucial ingredient or not…perhaps the coriander makes up for it 🙂 Anyway, thanks again!

ADMIN RESPONSE: Hi Donna, Sorry for the late reply. 🙂 I personally don’t think that it has a citrus flavor but I don’t think that I’ve used the Weber brand to compare. Scott is obsessed with coriander and adds it to almost everything! We do make an orange flavored (citrus flavored) chicken if that is what you are interested in. You can find it by searching for “Protein Packed Breakfast Sandwich” or use this link: http://www.heandsheeatclean.com/blog/protein-packed-breakfast-sandwich

I’m not sure I’ve seen ground red pepper before. Is that cayenne?
thanks for sharing all of your recipes! I make the mini turkey meatloaves all the time. That may not be the exact name for it. Also your energy or protein bites. I’m looking today for MORE recipes as I”m desperately trying to back on the bandwagon!! I’ve lost 50 lbs in 2 yrs clean eating but over the last 2 to 3 months have gained 10 back. And I need to regain control!!! In 2 yrs I’ve never went this far off the rails for this long. Anyway thanks for your website I read it daily!!

ADMIN RESPONSE: Ahhh thank you so much for the kind comments! Congrats on your weight loss, that is AMAZING! You will get back on track, I can tell just from your comment. Just forget about what you did or didn’t do and focus on moving forward. 🙂 YOU GOT THIS! And yes, ground red pepper is cayenne. Keep me updated on your progress. We have some new recipes that will hopefully be posted soon.

We loved the taco seasoning so we were excited to try this. I threw a pound and a half of chicken breast, onion, enough water (out of broth) to cover all but the top of the chicken, and this seasoning into the crock pot on low all day. It was awesome! I love that it is so good and so simple. My oldest daughter had leftovers the next day and the text I got from her was “That chicken you cooked is AAAMMAAAAAZZZZZING!!” Thanks for all the great clean recipes.

ADMIN RESPONSE: Hi Kris! This makes me so happy to read. Thank you for taking the time to comment. Hopefully, we’ll have some new recipes out soon!

I came across this recipe as I was out of Kickin’ Chicken. I did have to make some subs. I used cumin instead of coriander. I also read the ingredients for Kickin’ Chicken and added some orange peel and sugar. We used it for grilled chicken wings and it tasted great. Thanks for a great recipe.
