    FAQs

How big of a lift kit should I get Jeep Wrangler? ›

    Choose The Right Size

If you upgrade your Jeep to have 33-inch tires, a simple 1.5-inch lift will be plenty, while 35-inch tires require at least a 2.5-inch lift and possibly up to a 3.5-inch lift. If you plan to go all the way up to 37-inch tires, you'll need at least a 3.5-inch lift but preferably a 4-inch lift.

Should I lift my Jeep YJ? ›

If you have the means to take on the reduced gas mileage and high cost of installing and maintaining your lifted Wrangler, then by all means go ahead. However, if you've been fine with your stock Jeep Wrangler and how it performs, there's really no need to spend all that time and money lifting your Wrangler.

Does lifting a Jeep affect gas mileage? ›

The lift doesn't really affect it. The size of the tires (width) will affect your gas mileage. The lift doesn't really affect it. The lift will as some require you to remove lower air dam in addition more parts underneath will be exposed to the moving air.

How do I know what size lift kit I need for my Jeep? ›

Measure from top of the axle to the bottom lip of the upper coil housing like in the pic…… the stock rubicon is 11-1/4” ish, give or take a 1/4”, whatever your measurement is minus the 11-1/4 is how many inches of lift you got….

What is the most common lift height for a Jeep? ›

1.5-2 inches of lift is common. This type of lift is favorable for many because it doesn't require a lot of suspension modifications and factory ride quality is maintained.

What is a good lift kit height? ›

Four-inch Lift – A four-inch lift is better suited to drivers looking to do some serious off-roading. That extra four inches will allow your vehicle to travel over most obstacles with ease and handle steep inclines without roughing up your undercarriage.

What is the downside of lifting Jeep? ›

For example, one of the main cons to lifting your Jeep is that the additional height increases the vehicle's center of gravity which makes it easier to roll over. In addition, lifting a Jeep also decreases its fuel economy, as the extra height makes the vehicle less aerodynamic and increases its wind resistance.

Do lifted Jeeps have problems? ›

Larger lifts change a vehicles steering geometry and can cause a variety of issues. U Joints, CV shafts all tend to wear out more frequently due to increased angles. A 2–4 inch lift doesn't have a large impact but anything over that and you can expect more wear on moving components.

What are common problems with lifted Jeeps? ›

After lifting a Jeep, you may experience drivability issues - the ride may feel off and it can seem like it's wandering all over the road. The problem? Too little caster. Caster is the forward or backward angle of the steering axis as viewed from the side of the vehicle.

Does a 6 inch lift affect MPG? ›

A truck lift usually involves increasing the height of the vehicle's suspension and adding larger wheels and tires to create a higher ground clearance under your pickup. The adjustments made to your truck in this process will reduce its fuel economy.

What are the negative effects of lift kits? ›

Adding over a hundred kilograms of lift kit and tires will increase braking distance. The extra weight is also more than the shock absorbers are designed to handle, which can lead to overheating and failure. Stock suspension components, such as control arms and ball joints, can wear prematurely.

What are the benefits of lifting a Jeep? ›

In order to increase the ground clearance, a suspension lift will alter components to allow the suspension system to sit higher. It provides the benefit of larger tires, more off-road articulation (flexibility in the suspension), and often comes with upgraded pieces for the suspension.

Does a 2 inch lift kit make a difference? ›

For example, a two-inch lift kit will increase ground clearance and allow you to add better suspension with added travel and tackle challenging terrain more easily. A modest lift kit also won't hamper the on-road abilities of a truck.

Does a lift kit level your Jeep? ›

What Makes a Leveling Kit Different From a Lift Kit? Both leveling and lift kits will raise the body of your Jeep. While a lift kit can raise your entire Jeep up to 6 inches, a leveling kit provides just a small increase in suspension height.

How many inches does a lift kit add? ›

A lift kit replaces factory components and generally raises the truck as a whole anywhere from 3 to 12 inches, or higher for show trucks. We've compiled a gallery of level and lift kit installations to give you an idea of what certain height lifts or levels will look like on your truck.
